Vikings Remain Undefeated in Conference with 66-43 Win Over Compton
The Long Beach City College women’s basketball team took down Compton College 66-43 on Sophomore Night.
The Long Beach City College women's basketball team took down Compton College 66-43 on Sophomore Night in the Hall of Champions. With the win, the Vikings remain undefeated in the South Coast Conference with a 6-0 record.
"It was an emotional night for our team, especially with it being Sophomore Night," said Head Coach Dominic Freeman. "We didn't play our best game, but I'm proud of the way our girls battled through the emotions. We'll take this as a learning experience and look forward to getting back on track next week against Cerritos."
Leading the charge was Taylah Paepule, who dominated in the paint with an efficient 7-for-10 shooting, finishing with a team-high 18 points while also grabbing seven rebounds. Kimberly Cruz-Martinez made her presence felt on both ends, recording a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Brillana Boyd added 13 points, showing her versatility with three assists and two steals. Yesenia Garcia provided a spark off the bench, contributing 11 points while shooting an efficient 5-for-8 from the field.
Cristin Duncan chipped in six points while battling on the boards with seven rebounds. Meanwhile, Mackayla Flores and Kyla Sawall each added key contributions in limited minutes, combining for seven points and six rebounds.
The Vikings will return to the court on Wednesday, February 19 at Cerritos College at 5 p.m.
