Playoff Bound: Vikings Earn No. 18 Seed
The Long Beach City College women's basketball team is heading to the postseason once again! With an impressive 21-7 overall record, the Vikings have secured the No. 18 seed in the 3C2A playoffs and will travel to face No. 15 West Los Angeles College in the first round on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m.
"I'm super excited to be heading to the playoffs," said Head Coach Dominic Freeman. "Our team has embraced the challenge, fully buying into our vision and the culture we've worked to build. Their commitment to a family-first mentality and a winning mindset has been the key to our success. Our goal was to elevate the program, and I truly believe we're moving in the right direction."
The Vikings have been dominant all season and captured a conference championship along the way. "Winning the conference is something we don't take lightly," Freeman added. "It was a goal from day one, and I'm proud of how we approached every game with a business-like mindset, competing at a high level day in and day out."
A victory over West Los Angeles College would set up a highly anticipated showdown with Mt. San Antonio College, a team the Vikings upset in last year's regional finals to advance to the 3C2A State Championship quarterfinals. With momentum on their side, the Vikings are poised to make another deep run in the postseason.
Freeman, who was recently named South Coast Conference Coach of the Year, credits the entire program for the honor. "Being named Coach of the Year is a reflection of the incredible team around me. This is a team award—our players, coaching staff, and everyone who supports this program deserves the credit. I'm blessed and grateful for this opportunity at Long Beach City College and excited about what's ahead."
