Women's Soccer: Vikings leave Sacramento with 2-1 win over No. 7 American River
Just one day after a hard-fought 2-1 win at Sierra College, the Long Beach City College women's soccer team wrapped up its two-match Sacramento trip with a 2-1 victory over No. 7 nationally-ranked American River College on Friday.

The Vikings have now won four games in a row to improve to 4-2 overall this season while American River suffered just its first loss of the season and is 4-1.
Long Beach came out firing and outshot American River by a 9-4 margin.
Sophomore forward Camila Veron (pictured) got the Vikings on the board first with a breakaway goal to put LBCC up 1-0. Sophomore forward Denise Martinez followed with another first-half goal and freshman goal keeper Jeanette DeAnda held American River scoreless over the first 45 minutes as Long Beach led 2-0 at halftime.

In the second half, LBCC continued to put on the pressure. Sophomore forward Claudia Toledo had a pair of breakaway chances but couldn't finish. American River broke up the shutout late in contest, scoring on a free kick.

"This trip to Sacramento was a great opportunity to play two quality opponents (Sierra College and American River College)," said LBCC co-head coach Alex Camargo. "Our team played an organized possession style of soccer and we capitalized on our opportunities. Our next step is to prepare for a very tough upcoming South Coast Conference schedule and position ourselves to get into the playoffs."

Long Beach will have over a week to prepare for its ocnference opener. The Vikings return to action on September 27 when they host East Los Angeles College in a 4:15 pm match.
