Women's Soccer: Long Beach suffers first loss, falls 1-0 to Chaffey

The Long Beach City College women's soccer team had its home opener spoiled as the Vikings were edged 1-0 by visiting Chaffey College on an extremely hot Friday afternoon at LBCC.

It was Long Beach's first loss of the season and dropped its overall record to 3-1.

The Vikings controlled the tempo of the game in the first half but couldn't put anything together offensively. In the second, Chaffey turned up the pressure to take control of the contest.

The game was scoreless all the way until the 83rd minute when Cecilia Hernandez took a pass from Kayla Kemnetz and broke free down the field. Her shot slipped past LBCC goalkeeper Jeanette DeAnda for the game's only goal.

Long Beach was outshot 8-4 by Chaffey in the contest, but couldn't take advantage of its 4-1 margin in corner kicks.

DeAnda had four saves in goal for Long Beach while Chaffey (4-1-1) got two saves from Giselle Valiente.

Today was the first of three straight home games for the Vikings. Long Beach returns to action on Sunday at noon when it hosts Sierra College of Rocklin in a non-conference game.
