Women’s Soccer: Vikings come up short in dominating effort vs. Harbor

Despite dominating the contest, the Long Beach City College women's soccer team played to scoreless draw with visiting Los Angeles Harbor College on Friday at LBCC.

Long Beach outshot Harbor by a 16-4 margin, but couldn't find the back of the net for the second consecutive game. On Tuesday, LBCC earned a 0-0 tie at East Los Angeles College.

Sophomore Paola Alonso nearly broke the scoreless drought in the 43rd minute. Harbor goalie Zuri Moraga was drawn out of the box on a breakaway. After Moraga misplayed a pass, Alonso's open-net shot was knocked away by Harbor defender Vanessa Paredes to keep the Vikings off the scoreboard.

Freshman Jennifer Abarca also nearly scored for the Vikings, but her shot on a breakaway in the 82nd minute sailed just wide of the left post.

LBCC goalkeeper Jeanette DeAnda had a relatively quiet time for Long Beach as the sophomore collected two saves to earn her third consecutive shutout.

Moraga closed the game with eight saves for Harbor (2-5-1, 0-1-1 SCC).

Long Beach, now 4-2-2 overall and 0-0-2 in the SCC, returns to action on Tuesday (Oct 2) when it hosts Pasadena City College in a 4 pm conference game.
