Women's Soccer: Long Beach can't find the net in 1-0 SCC loss to Pasadena

The Long Beach City College women's soccer team is still in search of its first conference win after the Vikings suffered a 1-0 South Coast Conference loss to visiting Pasadena City College on Tuesday.

Long Beach dropped to 4-3-2 overall and 0-1-2 in conference play.

After starting the season 3-0 and outscoring its opponents 11-1, LBCC has gone 1-3-2 over its last six games. The Viking defense has allowed just three goals during that span while the offense has only scored twice.

Long Beach was forced to play without one of its leading scorers as Paola Alonso had to sit out today's contest after receiving a red card on Friday.

Tuesday's game remained scoreless all the way until the 84th minute. Pasadena's Isabella Montano sent a long breakaway pass down the heart of the field.  The Lancers' Vanessa Capra and LBCC goalkeeper Jeanette DeAnda both struck the ball at the same time. Capra's hard shot was deflected by DeAnda and bounced to the back of the net for the game's lone goal.

LBCC's best chance to score came in the 52nd minute when Rocio Hernandez' shot bounced off the crossbar. Hannah Hermansson also had a one-on-one breakaway with PCC goalie Tatiana Sanchez in the 87th minute, but her near-post shot was easily scooped up by Sanchez to end the threat.

Pasadena (6-2-2, 2-0-1 SCC) outshot Long Beach by an 11-10 margin. Garcia posted three saves for the Lancers while DeAnda totaled four saves for the Vikings.

Long Beach returns to action on Friday (Oct. 5) when it travels to Mt. San Antonio College for a 4 p.m. SCC game.
