Women’s Soccer: Vikings hang on for 1-0 win over East Los Angeles

Sophomore Paola Alonso's goal in the 12th minute was all the offense the Long Beach City College women's soccer team needed as the Vikings held on for a 1-0 South Coast Conference win over visiting East Los Angeles College on Friday.

With the win, LBCC improved to 7-4-3 overall and 3-2-3 in conference play.

On the scoring play, freshman Rocio Hernandez sent a breakaway pass from midfield down the left sideline. Alonso beat her defender to the ball and booted her shot past ELAC goalkeeper Belen Rodriguez for the eventual game-winning goal.

Alonso nearly added to the score with a pair of breakaway shots that were stopped by Rodriguez with less than five minutes to go in the first half.

Sophomore Jeanette DeAnda posted three saves in goal for the Vikings to record her seventh shutout of the season.

The LBCC women play their next two games on the road and return to action on Tuesday (Oct. 23) when they travel to Los Angeles Harbor College for a 3 p.m. SCC game.
