Women’s Soccer: Long Beach unbeaten streak snapped with loss to Cerritos

The Long Beach City College women's soccer team fell to No. 4 nationally-ranked Cerritos College 3-0 in a South Coast Conference game at LBCC on Friday.

The loss snapped Long Beach's four-game unbeaten streak and dropped the Vikings' record to 9-5-4 overall and 5-3-4 in the SCC. Cerritos, also ranked No. 3 in the CCCAA/CCCSIA state poll, improved to 15-1-2 and 10-1-1 in conference play.

Claudia Ibarra gave Cerritos a 2-0 halftime lead with goals in the 10th and 23rd minutes. Lauren Nanez added an insurance goal in the 82nd minute to seal the victory for the Falcons. Nanez also had an assist along with Jazmin Aguas and Julissa Castaneda.

Cerritos outshot Long Beach by a 23-5 margin. Sophomore Jeanette DeAnda (pictured) was busy in goal for the Vikings and totaled seven saves. Maria Santoyo had five saves in the Falcons' shutout.

Despite the lopsided scored, sophomore defender Marissa Macias turned in an impressive effort, breaking up numerous one-on-one breakaways deep in LBCC territory.

Today marked the final regular-season home game for 10 LBCC sophomores. The Vikings close out the SCC schedule with road games at Compton (Nov. 6) and El Camino (Nov. 9).
