Women's Soccer: Long Beach gets back on track with 6-0 rout of Compton

Freshman forward Tonie Bangos (Canyons HS) scored a pair of goals and added an assist as the Long Beach City College women's soccer team bounced back from a tough loss on Tuesday to defeat El Camino College Compton Center 6-0 in a South Coast Conference game on Friday.

The victory improved the Vikings to 9-2-1 overall and 5-1-0 in conference play.

LBCC dominated the contest from the opening whistle as the Vikings went on to outshoot Compton by a 34-0 margin.

Bangos opened the scoring with her first goal in the 18th minute off a long breakaway pass to the left side from freshman Tiana Silva (Millikan HS). Two minutes later, sophomore Liliana Montano (Lakewood HS, pictured) nailed a free kick off the hands of Compton goalkeeper Junnipher Guerrero to give the Vikings a 2-0 lead.

Bangos put in her second goal in the 26th minute off a free kick from freshman Noemi Vasquez (Wilson HS) and freshman Amanda Farrah (Gahr HS) closed out the first-half scoring with her goal off the pass of freshman Harlee Sturtevant (Lakewood HS) in the 41st minute.

Silva broke free for a goal in the 50th minute with the assist from Bangos and sophomore Hannah Hermannson (Stockholm, Sweden) capped the win with a goal off the corner kick of sophomore Jennifer Abarca (Warren HS) in the 62nd minute.

Freshmen Karen Nuno (Bellflower HS) and Chantel Muro (Southeast HS) combined for LBCC's fourth shutout of the season.

Compton (1-8-3, 0-5-1 SCC) earned a last-minute corner kick in the second half for its lone offensive threat of the game.

Long Beach returns to action on Tuesday (Oct 22) when it travels to El Camino College for a 2 p.m. conference game.
