Women’s Soccer: Long Beach can’t hold late lead, play Harbor to 1-1 draw

A goal in the 89th minute by Los Angeles Harbor College wiped away a potential win by the Long Beach City College women's soccer team. Instead, the Vikings will have to be content with a 1-1 South Coast Conference draw against the Seahawks on Tuesday at LBCC.

Long Beach had dominated the contest up until those final minutes. LBCC outshot Harbor by a 16-6 margin and held a slim 1-0 advantage for a majority of the contest after freshman Yasmyn Andrade (Delray, FL, pictured) took a pass from freshman Brenda Reyes (Hawthorne HS) and nailed an impressive shot from 25 yards out for a Viking goal in the 22nd minute.

Long Beach had numerous chances to blow the game open in the second half. Freshman Odaliz Pelegrina's (Gahr HS) shot in the 60th minute deflected off the open far-side post while freshman Tiana Silva (Millikan HS) nailed a shot off the post and missed just wide on the put-back attempt in the 66th minute.

But Harbor forced a pair of late corner kicks in the 88th minute that resulted in the equalizer. Andrea Barajas' second corner kick was headed in by Vanessa Paredes to snatch the victory from the Vikings.

Ledesma posted seven saves in goal for Harbor (5-9-1, 3-5-1 SCC) while LBCC freshman goalkeeper Karen Nuno (Bellflower HS) made three saves.

Long Beach, now 10-3-2 and 6-2-1 in conference, will look to bounce back from a tie and loss in its last two games. The Vikings will host Pasadena City College on Friday (Nov 1) at 4 p.m.
