Playing in its first home game of the season, the Long Beach City College women's soccer team played visiting Los Angeles Pierce College to a 1-1 tie in a non-conference game on Friday.

Sophomore forward Harlee Sturtevant (Lakewood HS) broke free for the Vikings' lone goal in the 40th minute. Sturtevant raced down the left sideline, had her centering pass deflect off a Pierce defender and regained possession before ripping a shot from 20 yards out that got past goalkeeper Jenna Koziol to give LBCC the lead.

Long Beach remained on top until midway in the second. Pierce's Paige Wolny was taken down in the down, resulting in a penalty kick. Wolny placed her shot perfect by LBCC backup keeper Isabella Reynosa (Lakewood HS) for the equalizer.

LBCC outshot Pierce (2-2-1) by a narrow 10-9 margin, but couldn't finish on its limited scoring chances.

Freshman Evelyn Fierros (Bishop Amat HS) posted two saves for the Vikings over the first 53 minutes while Reynosa had one save over the final 37 minutes. Koziol had three saves for the Brahmas.

Long Beach is still in search of its first win and is 0-1-3 overall. The Vikings return to action on Tuesday (Sep 16) at 4 pm when they host Moorpark College.
