Long Beach City College sophomore midfielder Hayley Gonzales (Calvary Chapel HS) scored the opening and final goal in a 4-0 shutout victory over the visiting Moorpark College Raiders on Tuesday at LBCC.

The win was the Vikings' first of the season and improved their record to 1-1-3 overall with just Friday's (Sep. 19) non-conference matchup at Mt. San Jacinto College remaining before Long Beach opens South Coast Conference play in two weeks.

Gonzales wasted little time in getting LBCC on the scoreboard. Just four minutes into the contest, Gonzales took a cross pass from sophomore Randie Vlahakis (Redondo Union HS) and ripped her shot from 20 yards out past Moorpark goalkeeper Emilia Feldman to give the Vikings the early advantage.

Sophomore forward Yasmyn Andrade (Delray, FL) also connected from long distance to beat Feldman. Her shot from 25 yards back stunned the Moorpark defense and put Long Beach ahead 2-0 in the 26th minute.

Freshman Briana Viramontes (Kennedy HS), who assisted on Andrade's goal, closed out the first-half scoring with her goal in the 34th minute. Viramontes stole the ball from a Moorpark defender deep in Raider territory and was able to slip her shot by Feldman to give LBCC a commanding 3-0 lead before heading in for the break.

Moorpark turned up its offensive pressure in the second half, but freshman Isabella Reynosa (Lakewood HS) was up to the challenge as she posted three saves over the final 45 minutes. Freshman Evelyn Fierros (Bishop Amat HS), who started the game in goal for Long Beach, posted two saves during the first half.

Gonzales wrapped up the victory with her final goal in the 85th minute off the assist from Andrade.

Long Beach outshot Moorpark by a 17-11 margin. Feldman posted six saves for Moorpark (0-4-1).
