Women’s Soccer: First-half lead holds up in 2-0 win at San Diego City

The Long Beach City College women's soccer team bounced back from a tough 4-0 loss on Saturday to post a shutout of its own, a 2-0 win at San Diego City College on Tuesday. The victory improved the Vikings to 2-1 overall this season.

LBCC dominated the contest from the start and outshot San Diego City by a 27-8 margin. Freshman Katin Trowbridge (Wilson HS) got Long Beach on the board with her header goal off the corner kick from sophomore Brianna Viramontes (Kennedy HS) in the 21st minute. And freshman Nikki Voulgaris (Wilson HS) closed out the scoring with her goal in the 35th minute thanks to the assist from sophomore Katie Yamaguchi (Lakewood HS).

Sophomores Evelyn Fierros (Bishop Amat HS) and Isabella Reynoso (Lakewood HS) combined for the Vikings' first shutout of the year. Fierros had three saves in the first half while Reynoso posted one second-half save.

Long Beach returns to action on Tuesday (Sept. 8) when the Vikings host Taft College in their home opener at 2 p.m. The LBCC men follow with a 4 p.m. match against Taft as well.
