It was smooth sailing for the Long Beach City College women's soccer team on Friday evening in a conference showdown against ECC-Compton on its home pitch. The Vikings' offense was unstoppable and the defense was impenetrable leading to eight goals of 48 shots with freshman forward Kalie Bembry (Cypress, CA) leading the way with four goals en route to a 8-0 tromping over Compton.

Bembry had a career-game against Compton by helming the offensive unit and notching a haul. After not recording a goal during her opening campaign as a Viking, Bembry came out of her offensive shell and ignited the pitch. Her first score came in the 38th minute of the first half with sophomore midfielder Stephanie Barrera (Bellflower, CA) setting up the score.

Prior to her opening score, sophomore forward Savannah Christensen (Long Beach, CA) put the Vikings on the board just two minutes into the contest by hammering home a goal top-shelf. Barrera assisted on the score as well. Christensen continued on to score once again in the 24th minute.

After assisting on two first-half scores, Barrera wanted a taste of the net and fired a goal past the Compton goalkeeper in the 40th minute, handing LBCC a commanding lead at 5-0.

Despite having a sizable lead entering into the second frame, the Vikings continued to press on the gas pedal and put massive pressure on the Compton defense. Bembry took control of the second-half efforts and sent home three more goals with Christensen assisting on two and freshman defender Shamika Mohler (Long Beach, CA) chipping in an assist on the final goal that led to the 8-0 victory.

The Vikings dominated the entire contest by outshooting Compton by a margin of 48-1.

Long Beach (7-3-2, 2-1-1 SCC) will take a hiatus from conference play and for two week and face off against Chaffey College on the road Friday, October 14 at 2 p.m.
