Vikings Undefeated Streak Snapped in Playoffs

In a stunning turn of events, the undefeated No. 3 Vikings women's soccer team met an unexpected obstacle in the second round of the SoCal Regionals Playoffs, succumbing to a 2-0 defeat by No. 6 Cypress College. The Vikings, who dominated the season with a 15-1-5 overall record, faced a new level of challenge they hadn't encountered yet this season.

Despite the Viking's best efforts and relentless determination, they struggled to break through on offense and capitalize on scoring opportunities, as they totaled 16 shots on the Chargers.

Genesis Lopez, Rya Cabral, and Paige Rodriguez all tallied three shots each, while Danika Hunter and Abbie Campos stayed calm under pressure on defense and helped push the ball forward.

"Today just wasn't our day. We played well enough to create several quality chances to score but couldn't put them away. When you leave goals on the table like that, good teams like Cypress will make you pay and that's what happened. This one will sting for a few days but we will all bounce back stronger, said Head Coach Eduardo Nunes. "Although this single loss kept us from moving forward and reaching the ultimate goal of a state championship, it doesn't define the season. These players will always be remembered for a very successful season and for raising the program back to its prominence."

The Vikings thank everyone for their support and will return to the field next season.
