Women's Swimming & Diving: Long Beach goes 1-1 in SCC dual meets

The Long Beach City College women's swimming & diving team split a pair of South Coast Conference dual meets on Friday, beating El Camino College 70-57 and narrowly losing to East Los Angeles College 63-59 at the LBCC Aquatic Center.

The LBCC women, now 1-3 in SCC dual meets, were winners in eight of 15 events.

Freshmen Jackie Rojas (Mira Costa HS, pictured) and Christine MacLennan (Millikan HS) led LBCC with three individual first-place finishes.

Rojas won the 50-yard breaststroke (33.31), 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.28), and the 100-yard IM (1:09.75). MacLennan was first in the 50-yard freestyle (26.20), 100-yard freestyle (58.06), and the 50-yard butterfly (29.30).

The duo also teamed with sophomore Krysta Fryer (Wilson HS), and freshmen Carissa Buelna (Paramount HS) to win the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:07.37.

Fryer also finished first in the 1,000-yard freestyle, clocking in at 12:15.37.

The LBCC women nearly pulled off a double dual meet win, but needed to finish ahead of East Los Angeles in the final event of the meet. El Camino was first in the 400-yard freestyle relay at 4:12.40, followed by East Los Angeles (4:15.00) and Long Beach (4:30.29).

LBCC hosts another SCC dual meet next Friday (Mar 23) at 12:30 pm and will face Rio Hondo and Chaffey.
