Women’s Swimming & Diving: MacLennan named SCC Swimmer of the Year

Long Beach City College freshman Christine MacLennan (pictured) was named the South Coast Conference Co-Swimmer of the Year after a three-win performance at the 2012 SCC Championships. MacLennan helped the Vikings total 339 points to finish in sixth place at the conference finals held at Pasadena City College.

In all, the LBCC women totaled six first-place finishes and two third-place showings.

MacLennan was a winner in three individual events, earning gold in the 50-yard freestyle (24.60), 50-yard butterfly (27.13), and 100-yard freestyle (53.88). She also teamed with freshmen Jackie Rojas, Carissa Buelna, and sophomore Krysta Fryer to earn a third-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay.

MacLennan shared the Co-Swimmer of the Year honors with Cerritos' Katherine Gabayeron.

Rojas was also a double-winner for the Vikings, earning first place in the 50-yard breaststroke (32.55) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.14). Rojas also finished third in the 100-yard IM at 1:06.07.

Chaffey won the women's team title with 676 points, followed by Mt. San Antonio at 488, followed by Cerritos (485), Pasadena (383), and El Camino (376).

Long Beach will close out the season at the 2012 California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Swimming & Diving State Championship on April 26-27 at East Los Angeles College.
