Women’s Swimming & Diving: MacLennan, Rojas lead LBCC at state finals

Sophomore Christine MacLennan (pictured) compiled three top-15 finishes while sophomore Jackie Rojas had two top-10 showings to lead Long Beach City College to a 20th place finish this past weekend (Apr. 25-27) at the 2013 California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Swimming & Diving Championship at East Los Angeles College.

MacLennan and Rojas, LBCC's lone qualifiers, combined to score 45 points for the Vikings. LBCC was just two and a half points back of Las Positas College in 19th place.

MacLennan capped her record-setting career with an impressive finish in the 50-yard freestyle on Thursday. MacLennan set a new LBCC record with a time of 24.46 to finish in fourth place at the state finals.

She also picked up a 13th place finish in the 50-yard butterfly at 27.06 and was 14th in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.71.

Rojas also closed out a standout career and left her name in the LBCC record book. Rojas broke her own record that she set last week at the South Coast Conference Championships in the 100-yard breaststroke as she finished ninth on Saturday at the state finals with a time of 1:08.29.

She also earned a fifth-place medal on Friday at the state championships in the 50-yard breaststroke at 31.30.

Rojas also owns the 50-yard breaststroke LBCC record with a time of 31.11 from last week's SCC finals.
