DeVries captures South Coast Conference diving championship, qualifies for state

Thanks to freshman Nicki DeVries (Valley Christian HS), the Long Beach City College women's swimming & diving team already has a lead heading into this weekend's South Coast Conference Championships.
DeVries totaled 166.75 points on Saturday to finish in first place in the 1-meter dive at the SCC Diving Championships at El Camino College. In the 3-meter event, DeVries was second with 153.15 points. She was just over five points back of 3-meter champ Christy Villasor of El Camino with 158.40 points.
For her effort, DeVries was named SCC Co-Diver of the Year while her coach Wellington Rogers was named SCC Co-Diving Coach of the Year.
Thanks to her championship and runner-up finishes, DeVries has also qualified for the 2014 California Community College Swimming & Diving State Championships on May 1-3 at East Los Angeles College.
