Women’s Volleyball: Vikings swept by No. 4 El Camino

The Long Beach City College women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 South Coast Conference loss to visiting El Camino College on Friday at LBCC.

The No. 4 state-ranked Warriors won the match by scores of 25-14, 25-23, 25-19 to improve to  10-2 overall and 3-0 in the SCC while Long Beach fell to 4-7 and 1-2 in conference play.

Long Beach's best chance at a win came in Set 2. The Vikings led 14-8 and were up 16-12 after a pair of kills by freshman outside hitter Danielle Tuitasi. But El Camino would eventually tie it at 17. The Vikings eventually went back ahead 23-21 after two kills by freshman outside hitter Lani Samoa and Tuitasi.

But El Camino rallied back to take the set after a kill by Teiula Barnes and three straight LBCC hitting errors.

Long Beach played the Warriors tough again in the third. LBCC trailed 16-15 before El Camino ran off five consecutive points to take a commanding 21-16 lead that the Warriors wouldn't give up.

Tuitasi led the Vikings with 10 kills and Samoa added nine kills. Sophomore setter Kelsey Dix posted 24 assists.

Long Beach returns to action on Wednesday (Oct 12) when it travels to LA Trade Tech College for a conference match.
