Sophomores Lauren Moreno (Wilson HS) and Melissa Yepez (Paramount HS) were recently named first-team All-South Coast Conference to lead a list of four Long Beach City College postseason award honorees. Also for the Vikings, sophomores Andrea Morales (Los Alamitos HS) and Vashti Nettles (Poly HS) were second-team All-SCC selections.
Moreno split time during the season at the libero and outside hitter positions for Long Beach. Moreno led LBCC and was fourth in the conference with 4.14 digs per set. She also averaged 1.38 kills which was fourth best on the team.
Yepez was one of the top setters in the SCC as her 8.69 assists per set and 44 aces ranked second in the conference. She also added 2.51 digs per set and totaled 17 blocks.
Morales was a valuable player for the Vikings on the back row and form the outside. She averaged 2.0 digs and 1.16 kills per set and served up 38 aces. Nettles led the Vikings with 2.42 kills and tied for the team lead with 53 blocks.
Long Beach closed the 2013 season with an 11-12 overall record and finished fourth in the SCC at 8-6 under eighth-year head coach Suzie Witmer.
