A tough start to the 2015 season continued for the Long Beach City College women's volleyball team as the Vikings suffered a pair of losses at the Pierce College quad tournament on Saturday.

In their opener, the Vikings took a set from No. 1 state-ranked Pierce College but ultimately fell 3-1 to the 11-0 Brahmas. LBCC lost the match by scores of 25-13, 23-25, 25-15, 25-7.

Later in the afternoon, the Vikings came back and were swept by Chaffey College. Chaffey took the opener 25-18 before LBCC pushed the Panthers before falling by a narrow one-point margin (25-24) in the second set. Chaffey closed out the victory with a 25-22 win in the third.

Freshman Kassidy Harrington (Western HS) led the Vikings against Chaffey with nine kills. Freshman Mary Delgado (Lakewood HS) posted 27 assists while sophomore Karissa Pluma (Poly HS) had 12 digs. Sophomore Helen Marangos (Santa Fe HS) chipped in with four kills and three aces.

Long Beach, now 2-7 overall, returns to action on September 30 when the Vikings host Golden West College in their final non-conference match of the season. LBCC begins South Coast Conference play on October 2 at Cerritos College.
