Coming off a win on Friday, the Long Beach City College women's volleyball couldn't keep that momentum going as the Vikings suffered a 3-0 loss at No. 6 state-ranked El Camino College on Wednesday. LBCC lost the South Coast Conference match by scores of 25-16, 25-10, and 25-22 to fall to 3-11 overall and 1-3 in the SCC.

El Camino (13-2, 3-0 SCC) got out to big leads in the first and second sets that the Vikings weren't able to challenge. But in the third, LBCC nearly avoided the sweep but couldn't hold on to a late lead.

Long Beach jumped out to a 6-2 advantage thanks to a pair of kills by freshman Gloria Watson (Immaculate Heart HS), an ace by freshman Regan Stanton (Lakewood HS), and three El Camino errors. But the Warriors eventually rallied to tie the set at 7-7 before the teams continued to change leads. With the score tied 17-17, the Vikings won the next four points to go up 21-17.

But El Camino rallied once again, winning the next five points to take a 22-21 lead. Watson's kill broke up the Warriors' scoring run and tied up the set at 22 before ECC closed out the set and sweep with three straight points, including back-to-back aces by Brooke Russell.

Watson led the LBCC offense with eight kills to go with four digs and two blocks. Freshman Kassidy Harrington chipped in with five kills and 10 digs while freshman Mary Delgado (Lakewood HS) had a team-high 18 assists.

Long Beach returns to action on Friday (Oct. 16) at 6 p.m. when the Vikings host No. 19 state-ranked Pasadena City College as part of their annual Dig Pink Night to benefit the fight against breast cancer.
