The Long Beach City College women's volleyball team suffered a 25-15, 25-16, 25-19 loss to visiting Mt. San Antonio College on Wednesday. The South Coast Conference defeat dropped the Vikings to 3-13 overall and 1-5 in conference play.

Long Beach couldn't really get any momentum going against the Mounties. Mt. SAC (10-4, 6-1 SCC) took  leads of 7-1 in Set 1 and 15-4 in Set 2 that put the Vikings in big holes.

The third was much closer until Mt. SAC pulled away late. The Vikings tied up the Mounties at 7-7, 8-8, and sophomore Lauren Christensen's (Valley Christian HS) kill evened up the score at 12-12 for the final time. Mt. SAC won five of the next six points to jump ahead for good.

Trailing 21-17 late in the third, the Vikings showed some late life. A kill followed by a block by sophomore Helen Marangos (Santa Fe HS) got Long Beach within 23-19 before the Mounties were able to close out the sweep.

Marangos had a good all-around match in the loss. She posted eight kills on 11 attempts for an impressive .636 hitting percentage. She also added a pair of aces and a block. Freshman Kassidy Harrington (Western HS) led LBCC with nine kills while freshman Mary Delgado (Lakewood HS) totaled 26 assists.

Long Beach looks to snap its three-match losing streak on Friday (Oct. 23) when the Vikings travel to Los Angeles Harbor College for a 6 p.m. SCC match.
