No. 16 Long Beach Women's Volleyball Advances to SoCal Regional Playoff Round Two

The No. 16 Long Beach City women's volleyball team traveled to Mission Viejo, CA on Tuesday night to face off against the Saddleback College Gauchos in the first round of the SoCal Regional Playoffs. In a back and forth affair throughout the entire match, the Vikings reigned supreme in four sets and advanced to the second round with a victory with final set scores reading 28-26, 26-28, 25-22, and 25-20.

Freshman setter Mary McBride wore numerous hats during the game by facilitating the offense to earn 34 assists. Her servicing ability was just one facet of her game that was on display as she recorded a season-high seven kills which was second on the team in the victory. She led the way with a game-high .412 hitting percentage.

Battling through injury, sophomore outside Sarah Miller remained potent on the offensive end by taking the reins en route to 23 kills on the night. She hammered home the game-winner in the fourth set as well. Furthermore, Miller recorded 16 digs and one block assists leading to 23.5 points in the match.

Sophomore outside Breana Torres helmed the backline by recording a game-high 23 digs and three service aces, while sophomore outside Jessica Kaeka backed her with 19 digs. Freshman libero Jordan Diaz chipped in 13 digs.

The Vikings will travel to San Diego, CA to compete against top-ranked Grossmont in the second round of the SoCal Regional Playoffs. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
