Women’s Volleyball Sweeps College of the Canyons 3-0

The Long Beach City College women's volleyball team swept the College of the Canyons Cougars in three sets on Wednesday evening in the Hall of Champions. LBCC won by the scores of 25-16, 25-23, and 25-23.

The Vikings attacked early and were able to take control offensively. Freshman outside hitter Jessica Blakeman shined in the first set with recording three kills and a service ace. Overall, Blakeman tallied 21 total attacks with eight kills and three digs.

In the second set, the Cougars fought back by keeping the gap in the score close. Sophomore Tatyana Umi was the first to put up a point for the Vikings and then finished the set with an assist to freshman outside hitter Josannah Vazquez for another win.

The cougars were coming in close in the final set, but the Vikings finished strong with the 25-23 win. Josannah Vasquez led the team with 14 kills and had three digs. Tatyana Umi had four block assists and sophomore middle blocker Andrea Edwards was right behind her with three.

Women's volleyball will play again on Friday, Sept. 15 against Southwestern at 2 p.m. and San Diego City College at 4 p.m. in the San Diego City College Quad Tournament.
