Sophomore women's indoor and beach volleyball athlete, Kaitlyn Peterson received the 2018-19 Don MacKenzie Memorial Scholarship from the South Coast Conference (SCC).
According to the SCC, the MacKenzie Scholarships annually go to sophomore student-athletes who exhibit strong academics and high performance on the field of play. In some cases, the student-athletes chosen are ones who also have overcome obstacles and involve themselves in community service. The awards honor the memory of MacKenzie, a long-time SCC commissioner from 1979-2004.
Peterson received All-SCC honors in both indoor volleyball and beach volleyball this past season, while also being a part of conference champion teams for both sports. During beach season, Peterson placed ninth in state pairs and was runner-up for the state team championship.
Peterson majored in sociology with a 3.91 GPA at LBCC, while earning an IGETC Certificate of Achievement and will transfer to USC as a film and business major.
