No. 11 Long Beach City College pulled off a stunning upset against No. 5 Grossmont College with a dominant 3-0 sweep on Wednesday evening, winning by scores of 26-24, 25-21, and 25-21. With this victory, the Vikings extended their perfect start to the season, improving to 4-0.
"I'm really proud of the girls. We executed exactly what we focused on in practice this week," said Assistant Coach Tara Keil. "Our biggest emphasis was on defense and playing selflessly, and they truly showcased that on the court tonight."
Tainea Allen powered the offense with a team-high 14 kills and added four digs. Kaylani Moncada was a force on defense, leading the team with 17 digs and chipping in four assists. Enaya Vaielua contributed across the board with seven kills, two aces, and an impressive 22 assists, while Ryannah Gagau tallied nine kills and three aces.
The Vikings will look to continue their unbeaten run when they travel to Golden West College on Friday, Sept. 6, at 5 p.m.
