The No. 7 Long Beach City College volleyball team pulled off a thrilling upset, defeating top-ranked San Diego Mesa College in a 3-2 battle to stay undefeated at 9-0. The Vikings came out strong, dominating the first two sets with scores of 25-19 and 25-13. However, the Olympians fought back, taking the next two sets 25-19 and 25-21, forcing a decisive fifth set. Long Beach edged out Mesa with a 16-14 victory in a nail-biting finish.
Libero Kaylani Moncada anchored the defense with an impressive 21 digs and chipped in four assists. On offense, setter Enaya Vaielua led the charge with a triple-double, recording 14 kills, 12 digs, and 24 assists. Middle blocker Jubilee Allen was a force at the net, contributing 11 kills and tallying eight total blocks.
The Vikings return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 25, when they travel to Pasadena College at 6 p.m.
