The Long Beach City College women's water polo team picked up a pair of wins on Day 1 at the 14th Annual tru-West Battle at the Beach women's water polo tournament at LBCC.

Long Beach (15-6 overall) opened the tourney with a 14-5 win over Cuesta College and came back in the afternoon to defeat Fullerton College 11-9.

Sophomore center Christine Meier (pictured) led the Vikings with 12 goals over the two contest. She led LBCC with five goals in the win over Cuesta and paced the Vikings with seven goals in the narrow victory over Fullerton.

Sophomore goalie Lindsay Smith totaled 16 saves for the day, collecting eight saves in each game.

Long Beach will face rival Golden West College in the tournament semifinals on Saturday at 12:25 pm at Cypress College. The championship game is set for 6:55 pm at Cypress.
