Women’s Water Polo: Long Beach wraps up regular season schedule with 14-5 win over Pasadena

Eight different Vikings scored in a 14-5 Long Beach City College women's water polo rout over visiting Pasadena City College in both teams' regular-season finale on Wednesday.

With the South Coast Conference win, the Vikings will head to the postseason with a 16-8 overall record and 6-1 mark in conference play.

Long Beach came out firing in the opening quarter, scoring six unanswered goals. Sophomore Lauren Sweet led LBCC with three first-quarter goals.

The LBCC defense was just as impressive, not allowing a shot by Pasadena in the first quarter. Long Beach held a 7-0 lead at halftime and never looked back.

Sophomores Allison Zell and Christine Meier and freshmen Christine MacLennan and Vanessa Canseco all scored two goals in the win. Sophomore Krysta Fryer and freshmen Jessica Qualmann and Jessica Muro posted single goals.

Pasadena (10-13, 3-4 SCC) finally broke the Vikings' scoring streak at the 5:04 mark in the third quarter after a goal by Makenzie Blank. Milene Minassians led the Lancers with three goals and Shelby Gregg added two goals.

Sophomore goalie Lindsay Smith (pictured) posted five saves and allowed just two goals over three quarters for LBCC. Freshman April Hernandez closed out the win with two saves in the fourth.

Long Beach returns to action on November 3-5 when it will compete at the South Coast Conference Championships at Mt. San Antonio College.
