Sophomores Christine MacLennan (pictured, defending) and Jackie Rojas both scored three goals each to help lead the Long Beach City College women's water polo team to a 7-6 win at Pasadena City College in both teams' South Coast Conference opener on Wednesday.

The win improved the Vikings to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the SCC while the Lancers dropped to 2-3 and 0-1 in conference play.

Long Beach jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first quarter and never trailed. Rojas scored on a power play

with 1:30 remaining in the fourth quarter to give LBCC a commanding 7-4 lead.

But the Lancers didn't quit. Pasadena responded with a pair of goals by Mackenzie Blank at the 1:08 mark and with nine seconds remaining to cut the Vikings' lead to one.

Long Beach was able to run out the clock and hang on for the win.

Freshman Ranya El-Tawil also scored for Long Beach while freshman Taylor Faust totaled eight saves in goal for the Vikings.

Blank led PCC with five goals and goalie Shelby Gregg had seven saves.

Long Beach returns to action next Wednesday (Sep 19) when it hosts Cerritos College in a South Coast Conference game at 3 pm.
