Women’s Water Polo: No. 5 LBCC falls to No. 1 Golden West, beats Trade Tech

Under the lights at the Viking Aquatic Center, the No. 5 state-ranked Long Beach City College women's water polo dropped a 14-9 non-conference game to visiting No. 1 Golden West College on Wednesday night.

Golden West (13-0) stormed out to a 5-0 lead after the first quarter and was up 6-0 before LBCC sophomore Christine MacLennan scored at the 3:37 mark in the second.

The Rustlers were up 8-2 at halftime and were never threatened. Tahnei Roy led Golden West with five goals.

MacLennan led Long Beach with three goals and sophomore Jackie Rojas scored twice.

Earlier in the day, the Long Beach women cruised to a 20-3 South Coast Conference win over visiting Los Angeles Trade-Tech College.

Long Beach led 8-0 at halftime and was up 19-0 early in the fourth quarter before allowing Trade-Tech to score.

Freshman Jessica Diaz scored six goals to lead the Vikings while sophomores Rojas, MacLennan, and freshman Nancy Gutierrez all scored three times.

The Long Beach women, now 13-5 overall and 4-1 in conference play, return to action on Friday (Oct. 12) when they will compete at the one-day Riverside tournament.
