Long Beach City College sophomore Caroline Nash (Millikan HS) scored a game-high four goals while freshman goalie Felicia DePalma (St. Joseph HS) nearly had a shutout in the Vikings' 12-2 South Coast Conference win over visiting Chaffey College on Wednesday.

With the victory, LBCC remains one game back of unbeaten Mt. San Antonio College in the SCC standings at 5-1 and improved to 12-6 overall.

Despite the lopsided final score, the game was close during the first half. After a scoreless opening quarter, Long Beach held a narrow 3-1 lead at halftime. But in the third quarter, the Vikings blew the game open with eight goals.

Sophomore Ashley Diaz (Esperanza HS) added three goals, five steals and two assists while sophomore Makenna Oberst (Los Alamitos HS/Concordia University-Irvine) also scored three times to go with four steals and two assists. DePalma posted six saves in goal for LBCC.

Long Beach returns to action on Friday (Oct. 16) when the Vikings will compete at the Riverside City College Mini Tournament. LBCC is scheduled to face American River College at 11:40 a.m. followed by a 2:55 p.m. contest against host RCC.
