Following a solid representation at the South Coast Conference (SCC) Championships last week, the Long Beach City College women's cross country teams took their talents to the Southern California Championships on Friday evening in Orange, CA at the Irvine Regional Park in warm conditions. The women's side performed at an extremely high level by placing 12th and qualifying for the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships for the first time since 2006.

The women were paced by SCC Female Cross Country Athlete of the Year Alexis Ceballos who shaved off a whole minute on her season-best time with a mark of 19:07.4. Ceballos continually rose her level of athleticism and endurance as the season progressed by consistently decreasing her time as the months continued. From the first to last race of the season, Ceballos shaved off a whopping total of two minutes off her mark.

Freshman Destiny Diaz put together a great mark by earning a time of 20:30.9 with an average mile time of 6:36.1 to earn her 51st place. The remaining Vikings finished as follows:

Freshman Malika Spencer – 21:49.0, 94th place
Freshman Lauryn Jones – 22:03.9, 99th place
Freshman Ocean Sandoval – 22:26.2, 112th place
Sophomore Melissa Higueros – 22:29.3, 114th place
Freshman Deniera Camergo – 24:16.0, 147th

The Vikings will compete in the CCCAA State Championships on Saturday, November 19th at Woodward Park in Fresno, CA.
