Viking women second at Canyons Cross Country Invite

The Long Beach City College women's cross country team totaled 40 points to finish in second place at the College of the Canyons Cross Country Invite in Santa Clarita on Friday.

Freshman Ailene Rios led a trio of LBCC women to finish among the event's top 20. Rios cleared the 5K course with a time of 21:59.6 to finish in sixth place overall. She was followed by freshman Jocelyn Gutierrez in 12th place (24:13.0) and sophomore Mariah Macias in 16th (25:22.3).

Also for the Vikings, freshman Elisa Coto Polanco was 22nd with a time of 29:56.5 with freshman Emily Rangel finishing right behind her in 23rd place at 29:58.6.

Host Canyons won the team event with 18 points while COC's Danielle Salcedo was first with a time of 18:58.1.

LBCC returns to action on Sep. 17 when the Vikings will compete at the SoCal Regionals Preview Meet.
