Seven members of the highly successful 2015 Long Beach City College Football program signed their National Letter of Intent to continue their academic and athletic careers at four-year universities. The signees include JJ Allen (Arizona), Courtney Crockett (Idaho State), Josh Fatu (USC), Keanu Hill (Tulsa), London Iakopo (Louisville), Nick Jordan (Duquense), and Thomas Patolo (Eastern New Mexico).

The group was joined by Tai Tiedemann (Manhattan College, NY) and Sean Williams (Georgetown College, KY) from LBCC Baseball, Justin Weaver (Marymount California University) from Men's Cross Country, and James Pacheco (Concordia University Irvine) of men's soccer along with Long Beach Community College District Superintendent-President Eloy Ortiz Oakley, Director of Athletics Randy Totorp, LBCC Football Head Coach Brett Peabody, LBCC Baseball Head Coach Casey Crook, LBCC Men's Cross Country Head Coach Julio Jimenez, as well as family, friends, and college staff at a signing day ceremony at the campus.

Today marked the opening day of the regular signing period for community college and high school football, soccer, and water polo student-athletes that allows them to officially commit to four-year colleges. Tiedemann, Williams, and Weaver had already made their commitments to their colleges at an earlier time.

While a majority of the signees had verbally committed, Allen just made his announcement publically on Monday. Fatu was the big story of the day as he was set to sign with Boise State University before he received a call from the coaching staff at USC this morning offering a scholarship.

Peabody was proud of his seven Vikings that over the past two years helped continue the upward trend for the LBCC Football program. LBCC had a combined two-year overall record of 19-4, the best mark in Southern California. This past fall, the Vikings went 10-2, capture a share of the National Central League title, won a bowl game, and advanced to the Southern California Championship final.

"It's a great day for Long Beach City College and a great day for these families," said Peabody. "I couldn't be more proud of these young men. They are a great representation of the college, our program, and their families. Football is just a part of the puzzle. Anything that happens beyond college for these guys would be great. At the end of the day, it is all about getting that piece of paper (diploma) and being competitive in the real world."

According to Peabody, more members of the 2015 football squad will also be signing with four-year programs in the weeks to come.

Mat Boesen joins the group as Vikings to transfer out. He committed to Texas Christian University (TCU) during the early signing period in December and is already in Fort Worth, Texas set to take classes in the spring.
