Facing her former team for the first time, Long Beach City College head coach Megan Martinez' Vikings totaled 15 hits in a 16-0 rout of El Camino College Compton Center on Tuesday at LBCC. The South Coast Conference victory improved Long Beach to 6-6 overall and 2-1 in SCC play.

The Vikings set the tone early against Compton starting pitcher Olga Pardo as they scored six runs in the first inning. Brianna Alvarez (Montebello HS), Doreen Corella (San Pedro HS), and Andrea Barba (Cypress HS) all smacked RBI doubles with Mariah Jacobo (La Serna HS) delivering the biggest blow, a two-run home run.

LBCC put the mercy rule into effect after scoring eight runs in the third. Four walks and a hit batter forced in runs while Daisy Velasquez (Bellflower HS) and Corella had run-scoring singles.

Brooke Loard (Millikan HS) and Vanessa Valdez (Lakewood HS) closed out the scoring with RBI singles in the fourth.

Mitzy Moreno (Downey HS) and Anissa Hamilton (Downey HS) combined for the one-hit shutout. Moreno struck out six and held Compton hitless over the first three innings before Hamilton closed out the victory with five strikeouts over the final two innings.

Corella went 3 for 3 with 3 RBI to lead Long Beach at the plate. Valdez also drove in three runs and went 2 for 3.

Long Beach returns to action on Thursday (Feb. 25) when the Vikings travel to El Camino College for a 3 p.m. SCC game.
