Facing the No. 1 seed in the Southern California Regional Playoffs in Cypress College, No. 16 Long Beach City College suffered a pair of losses to the top-ranked Chargers to close out the 2016 season and its postseason run.

Sophomore Mariah Jacobo went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI and a pair of doubles while sophomore Brooke Loard struck out 11 batters in a complete-game effort to lead Long Beach City College to an 8-5 win over visiting Bakersfield College on Tuesday in a play-in round game of the 2016 Southern California Regional Playoffs.

Long Beach City College sent its nine sophomores out on a winning note by defeating visiting Los Angeles Harbor College 5-1 on Tuesday in their final home game of the 2016 season. The South Coast Conference win improved the Vikings to 20-17 overall and 10-8 in conference play.

The win improved the Vikings to 13-12 overall and 5-6 in conference play.

Long Beach City College bounced back from Friday’s loss at Pasadena City College to earn a pair of non-conference wins at San Diego City College on Saturday. The Vikings opened with a 12-2 win over Los Angeles Mission College and closed out the day with a 7-2 victory against host San Diego City.

Sophomore Mariah Jacobo (pictured) smashed a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to lead the Long Beach City College Vikings to a 6-5 come-from-behind win at Citrus College on Friday night. The non-conference victory evened LBCC’s record at 7-7.

Facing her former team for the first time, Long Beach City College head coach Megan Martinez’ Vikings totaled 15 hits in a 16-0 rout of El Camino College Compton Center on Tuesday at LBCC. The South Coast Conference victory improved Long Beach to 6-6 overall and 2-1 in SCC play.

New Long Beach City College softball head coach Megan Martinez earned her first South Coast Conference win for the Vikings, and it was a big one. Behind a complete-game shutout by sophomore Brooke Loard, LBCC upset No. 11 state-ranked and previously unbeaten Mt. San Antonio College by a final score of 4-0 in Walnut on Tuesday.

Long Beach City College closed out its non-conference schedule with an 11-3 five-inning loss at No. 5 state-ranked Cypress College on Friday. Cypress erupted for 10 unearned runs in the third inning to put the game out of reach.

The Long Beach City College offense erupted for 24 hits but still had to go to extra innings to defeat Southwestern College on the road by a final score of 13-9 on Saturday. The victory snapped the Vikings’ two-game losing streak and improved their overall record to 4-3.

Sophomore Brooke Loard (pictured) had 11 strike outs in her Viking debut but the Long Beach City College softball team couldn't hold a late lead for the second straight game and suffered a 3-1, nine-inning loss to visiting San Diego Mesa College on Friday.

It was an impressive opening weekend for new head coach Megan Martinez and the Long Beach City College Softball team as the Vikings took three out of four games at the David "Hawk" Wilder Tournament at Glendale Community College.
