Freshman Daisy Velasquez (Bellflower HS) smacked a three-run home run while sophomore Brianna Alvarez (Montebello HS) had 2 RBI to lead Long Beach City College to an 8-5 South Coast Conference win over visiting LA Harbor College on Tuesday. LBCC improved to 8-7 overall and 3-2 in SCC play.

Long Beach led 8-1 after three innings before Harbor rallied for two runs in both the fifth and seventh innings.

Alvarez gave the Vikings a 3-0 lead in the first thanks to her bases-loaded single down the left-field line. She was credited with two RBI while a third Long Beach run scored on an error.

In the second, sophomore Doreen Corella's (San Pedro HS) fielder's choice grounder drove in sophomore Andrea Barba (Cypress HS) and sophomore Mariah Jacobo (La Serna HS) lined a RBI single to push the Vikings' lead to 5-0. Velasquez made it 8-1 with her line drive shot over the left-center field fence with two runners on in the third.

Freshman Anissa Hamilton (Downey HS) got the win to improve to 2-3. She allowed two earned runs and five hits over five innings. Sophomore Brooke Loard (Millikan HS) got the final out in the seventh for her first save.

Jacobo also had a good game at the plate, going 2 for 3 with a RBI.

Long Beach returns to action on Thursday (Mar. 3) when the Vikings travel to Pasadena City College for a 2 p.m. SCC game.
