Long Beach City College sent its nine sophomores out on a winning note by defeating visiting Los Angeles Harbor College 5-1 on Tuesday in their final home game of the 2016 season. The South Coast Conference win improved the Vikings to 20-17 overall and 10-8 in conference play.

Sophomore Brooke Loard (Millikan HS) pitched well in her final start in the circle at LBCC. She went the distance and allowed just one run and four hits while striking out eight.

Harbor (10-23, 5-14 SCC) took an early lead on the Vikings, getting a lead-off single from Demme Carter and two-out double by Sandra Rangel to go up 1-0 in the second.

But Long Beach jumped ahead for good with three runs in the third. Freshman Yulissa Dominguez (Santa Fe HS) drove in sophomore Sarah Maldonado (Port of Los Angeles HS) with a bunt single while sophomore Brianna Alvarez (Montebello HS) also came in to score on the play on some slick base running by Dominguez. Two batters later, Dominguez came in to score on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Mariah Jacobo (La Serna HS).

In the fourth, sophomore Erika Balboa (Gahr HS) lined a two-out single and came in to score on a pair of errors by Harbor. The Vikings closed out the scoring in the sixth when sophomore Vanessa Valdez (Lakewood HS) doubled and came home on a single from sophomore Mayra Fausto (Bell HS).

Dominguez went 2 for 3 with a run and RBI to lead the Vikings at the plate.

Long Beach closes out the season with three final games on the road. The Vikings are next at Pasadena City College on Thursday (Apr. 21) before ending with games at Cerritos and East Los Angeles next week.
