The 2016 spring season continued for the Long Beach City College track and field team over the weekend at the Occidental College Distance Carnival Spring Break Classic. LBCC had 28 individual entries at the meet and earned a total of six top-20 finishes.
Freshman Sherrice Pelle led Long Beach with a third-place finish in in the 100-meter hurdles as she ran a season-best time of 15.18.
Other top-20 efforts for the Viking women included Francine Contreras in the javelin with a season-best mark of 19.71 meters for 10th place and Breonna James in the 100 meters, taking 16th at 13.19.
On the men's side, Jarrod Amyx earned 11th place in the discus with a throw of 36.02 meters. Damond Burns ran 50.55in 400 meters for 16th place while Shawn Woodstock also finished among the top 20 in 400 with a time of 52.22.

The Long Beach women will be back in action on Mar. 18 at the Antelope Valley College Invitational while the Viking men are next at the Aztec Invitational at San Diego State University on Mar. 25.
