Long Beach City College is just three weeks away from hosting the South Coast Conference Championship meet and on Saturday, the Vikings traveled to San Diego Mesa College to compete at the Arnie Robinson Invitational. It proved to be a successful event for LBCC as the Vikings totaled 13 top-10 finishes.

The Long Beach women had seven of the 13 on the day while posting six season-best, team-leading marks.

Freshman Seayanna Crawford had the Vikings' best individual finish at the meet. She ran a team-best 1:01.32 in the 400 meters to win her heat and earn fifth place overall. Other season-best marks for Long Beach included Asia Muldrow in the 1500 meters (5:27.69), Marlene Contreras in the discus (25.87m), Linda Izabal in the hammer (27.62m), Francine Contreras in the javelin (21.97m), and the 4x100 meter relay team (50.90).

On the men's side, Damond Burns had a good day for the Vikings. He had the men's top individual finish, taking second in his heat and fourth overall in the 200 meters with a time of 21.68. Burns was also ninth overall in the 100 meters at 11.06. Both times were team and season-best marks for LBCC.

Phillip Powell also added a pair of top-10 showings as he was fifth in the 1500 meters (4:11.21) and sixth in the 400 meters (50.06).

Up next for both the men's and women's squads is the Cerritos Invitational on April 9 at nearby Cerritos College.
