Track & Field: LBCC totals 14 top-10 finishes, nine season-best marks at Cerritos Invitational

The Long Beach City College track & field team put together an impressive effort at the nearby Cerritos Invitational on Saturday as the Vikings totaled 14 top-10 finishes and nine season-best marks.

Sophomore sprinter Damond Burns' had the Viking men's top finish as he took second place in the 200 meters with a time of 21.90. In the 100, Burns ran a season/team best time of 10.98 to finish in 14th place overall.

Phillip Powell took sixth in the 800 meters finishing just shy of a season-best time with 1:56.85. Season/team-leading marks were achieved by Elias Galvan in the 5000 (17:24.27), Harold Vasquez in the steeplechase (10:57.21) and Jarrod Amyx in the shot put (13.06 meters).

On the women's side, Malika Spencer cruised to a third-place finish in the 800, crossing the finish line with a season/team-best time of 2:32.02. Seayanna Crawford took fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a team-leading time of 1:11.07 while Asia Muldrow clocked in at 5:21.29 in the 1500 for another season-best time.

On the field, new season-best marks were set by Erin Wilber in the high jump at 1.41 meters and Francine Contreras in the discus at 26.12.

Long Beach is just two week away from hosting the South Coast Conference Championship meet. Up next for the Vikings is the Mt. SAC Relays for the men on April 14-15 and the Cal State LA Twilight Open for the LBCC women on April 14.
