The Long Beach City College women's basketball team continued its promising start to the 2015-16 season as the Vikings went 3-0 and defeated host Pasadena City College on Sunday 62-57 in the championship final of the 2nd Honda of Pasadena Classic.

LBCC is now 5-1 after two tournaments to open the season, grabbing the Pasadena title and a runner up finish at the Mt. SAC Tip-Off Tournament.

On Sunday, the Vikings erased a 13-point third-quarter deficit to pull out the come-from-behind victory over the Lancers. Trailing 51-41 after the third, Long Beach went on to outscore Pasadena 21-6 in the fourth quarter. A 12-0 run midway through the fourth got LBCC within one (54-53) at the 4:33 mark. Freshman Miranda Martinez' (El Dorado HS) jumper tied the score at 55 before freshman Paris Lucci (Palos Verdes Peninsula HS) nailed a three-pointer with 2:34 left to give the Vikings the lead for good.

Lucci and sophomore Taylor Smith (Redondo Union HS) both came off the bench to lead LBCC with 11 points. Freshman Sopavy Seng (Poly HS) added 10 points while Martinez had a team-high seven rebounds and five blocks to go with six points.

Long Beach reached the championship final after a big 78-35 opening-night win over MiraCosta College on Friday and a 53-41 triumph against College of the Sequoias in Saturday's semifinals.

Freshman Ayerjenee Jeanmard (Poly HS) had a monster game against MiraCosta, scoring a game-high 19 points to go with nine steals and four rebounds. She shot 5 for 9 from the floor, including 4 for 6 from three-point range. Jeanmard added 12 points and five rebounds in the Sequoias victory and was named the tournament most valuable player.

Joining her on the all-tournament team was sophomore Lupe Cruz. She averaged 12.3 points and 5.6 rebounds over the weekend, including highs of 17 points and eight rebounds against Sequoias.

Long Beach returns to action on Friday (Nov. 20) when the Vikings travel to Santa Ana College for a 7 p.m. non-conference game.
