Women's Basketball: Long Beach improves to 6-1 after 78-57 win at Santa Ana

Freshman Paris Lucci (Palos Verdes Peninsula HS) came off the bench to score a team-high 14 points to help lead the Long Beach City College women's basketball team to a 78-57 non-conference win at Santa Ana College on Friday. With the victory, the Vikings improved to 6-1 overall. 

LBCC trailed early, down 6-4 at the 7:32 mark in the first quarter before the Vikings outscored the Dons 15-4 to over the rest of the period take a commanding 19-10 lead into the second quarter.

Freshman Kendria Rendon's (Cabrillo HS) jumper at the 8:34 mark in the second helped the Vikings jump out to a 5-0 run. Lucci scored seven of her 14 points over the final two and half minutes of the second quarter. Her jumper before the buzzer sent the Vikings into halftime with a 42-21 lead.

On defense, the Vikings scored 30 points off of 26 Santa Ana turnovers. LBCC totaled 17 steals on the night, getting a game-high six from freshman Ayerjenee Jeanmard (Poly HS). She added six assists to go with eight points.

Freshmen Sopavy Seng (Poly HS) and Vivian Hernandez (Warren HS) both scored 12 points. Sophomore Christiana Layne (Lynwood HS/Biola Univ.) led LBCC with eight rebounds and chipped in with six points.

Blaysen Varnadoe scored a game-high 22 points to lead Santa Ana (3-3).

Long Beach returns to action on December 10 when the Vikings will compete at the three-day Irvine Valley College tournament.
