The fifth-seeded Vikings couldn't pull off an upset of the Rustlers for the season time this season and close the year with a 19-10 overall record.
On Friday, Long Beach was up 2-1 after the first quarter and held a 5-4 advantage at halftime. But No. 4 Golden West outscored LBCC 4-2 in the third quarter and held on for the win in the fourth.
In their final game as a Viking, sophomores Makenna Oberst (Los Alamitos HS/Concordia University-Irvine) and Cori Reynolds (Poly HS/Long Beach State) led Long Beach with two goals each. Freshman Felicia DePalma (St. Joseph HS) had six saves in goal.
It was a good season for the Vikings considering they carried just nine players on the roster and at times had even less available because of injury. LBCC opened the season with an 8-1 record. The Vikings went on to capture its first South Coast Conference championship since 2010 and seventh overall since 2001.
