John Callard (Football, 1948
& 1950): Callard was a starting halfback on LBCC’s 1950
national, conference, and Junior Rose Bowl championship team. He
was named MVP of the Junior Rose Bowl after rushing for 106 yards
on 13 carries. He set the LBCC record for season rushing yards with
774 and PATs (29) in 1950. Following LBCC, Callard took his talents
to Denver University (1951-52) and earned All-Skyline Conference
honors as a senior in 1952. After college, he joined the armed
forces and was a member of the Marine Corps and Navy All-Star team
in 1954 and 1955.
