The Long Beach City College men's water polo team closed out the season with a tough 9-6 loss to Golden West College in the championship final of the 2011 California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Water Polo State Championships on Saturday at Cerritos College.

Long Beach City College moved one step closer to capturing its ninth state title as Long Beach knocked off defending state champ and North top seed West Valley College by a final score of 8-7 in Friday’s semifinals of the 2011 CCCAA Water Polo State Championships. The Long Beach City College men’s water polo team will continue its quest for the program’s ninth state championship beginning Friday (Nov. 18) when the Vikings face West Valley College in the semifinals of the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Water Polo State Championships. The two-day tournament will be played at nearby Cerritos College.

Long Beach City College captured its seventh consecutive South Coast Conference championship and 11th over the past 12 seasons after its 14-10 win over Cerritos College on Friday in the SCC championship final. With the conference title, the Vikings were awarded the No. 2 seed for this week’s Southern California Regional Championships at Riverside Community College.
