Mike Giers

Year: 2006
Team: Football

Mike Giers (Football, 1960, 1962): Rarely is an offensive lineman named player of the year, but Giers achieved that honor twice. In 1960, he was named the Metropolitan Conference Player of the Year as an offensive tackle and again in 1962 as a tackle and linebacker. Both seasons he was named All-American after helping the Vikings win two national championships. He was also named to the Junior Rose Bowl All-Time Squad. Following LBCC, Giers played two seasons at USC (1963-64) before turning pro. In 1965, he was drafted by the L.A. Raiders of the AFL but decided to sign with the N.Y. Giants of the NFL.
